提要註:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between involvement in social groups and cooperation in collective action efforts. This study focuses on involvement in religious and political communities because previous research on collective action points to the norms within these groups as being motivators to engage in collective action. The present study utilized a social dilemma game adapted from the format of the Common Resource dilemma and the Prisoners dilemma. In this study I recruited college students to play a three-person version of the game. Demographic information regarding political affiliation, religious affiliation, and commitment to those two groups was collected in advance. I theorized that greater involvement in one's religious community and political community establishes normative pressure towards cooperation in collective action efforts. Ordinary least-squares regression was used to analyze the data. Results were not significant for a relationship between political engagement or religious commitment and cooperation.
